The road to a safe machine.

A guide for manufacturers and operators

Module 1: Basics of the Machinery Directive

    Module Description:

It's common knowledge that the Machinery Directive is mandatory for machine and plant engineering, but also for companies that build their own plants or modernize or retrofit existing machines. In reality however, businesses often don't have enough time or expertise available to allow them to implement the directives appropriately. If an accident occurs, there’ s a risk not only of personal injury, but there may also be legal implications, along with causing potentially irreparable damage to the company’s image and reputation.

This training module will provide you with the basic knowledge to understand and implement the requirements from the Machinery Directive and the safety-related standards that can be developed from it.

We will introduce you to the legal framework, explain the essential terminology and give you the tools you need to create a risk assessment and derive appropriate measures from it.

The terms "old machines", "assembly of machines" and "significant change", which come up often and can lead to issues will also be discussed in this module, using examples to show how they are used in practice.

You’ll also get the chance to reflect on your own experience and problems you’ve faced.
